I have been struggling thru a very long month of turmoil consisting of too many things to do, and not enough time in which to accomplish them in. Last week I completed a very quick, explosive, oil pastel drawing entitled "Don't drink and Draw". It is a mad man's version of frustrated energy, which loudly speaks to you on 3D canvas, of why drinking alcohol and drawing do not mix. I wanted to create some new Art that is fresh and self explanatory, something that I could finish in a couple of hours, not in a month, like a lot of my other projects. My last big project prior to completing "Don't drink and Draw" was entitled "The Flight of the Monarchs"; the giant 36 x 36 3D canvas and short story consumed the entire month of April and part of May 2002 to complete. I do enjoy the challenging artwork with all the intensity that comes along with it, but it has interestingly enough turned me into a machine recently that feels obligated to creatively write a clever short story for each new piece, and then organize other promotional items that go along with the painting. The completed painting, after it is left to dry for over a month, is first digitally photographed and edited, then it is set up for Internet viewing access thru my website designer Jeanne Lope. Finally if that is not enough, the painting then eventually finds its way over to another company that I am working with called Instant Imprints. They prepare my digital photos of the art work for tee shirt silk screening, which is to be transferred onto tee shirts for the "GregoArt Tee Shirts" section clothing line which is now available for purchase online.
The www.gregoart.com website has grown in leaps and bounds over the past few years, and believe me, it has been a wild toad ride just keeping up with it. More and more people are becoming interested in the concept, so of course I get a lot of feed-back from everybody. It takes a lot of discipline for me to keep going forward with this art oriented small business, and at the same time I struggle to try to remain focused and organized. I am extremely grateful to all of my loyal following, who continually inspire me to keep going on this never ending train ride that is someday eventually bound for glory. As I ride this fast moving train with you, I often reflect upon the meager beginnings of my art career, that started with a simple watercolor set that I received for Christmas in 1996. Little did I know how that simple little set of paints, would totally color my world. It has taken me thousands of focused hours, and many years of perseverance to realize that if you want something bad enough, and if you have the burning fiery desire inside of your veins to accomplish your dreams, then you have to be willing to work your fingers to the bone, push your mind to the limits, and struggle until exhaustion overcomes you. Eventually with a little good fortune, a lot of focused energy, and a following that wants you to succeed, if you say your prayers every night, you just might achieve some kind of stardom someday.
The all mighty second hand of my internal clock continues to tick on and on, and the comments from the Peanut Gallery finally have started to acknowledge my cleverness. My weird art has now become popular art, and it has suddenly been hurled into the spot light. My dedicated believers want me to get bigger, better, faster and stronger. I think my destiny is beginning to actually follow me, like a shooting stars vapor trail that tails you wherever you go. A small loyal dedicated following of Grego Maniac's is slowly being assembled across the Red, White and Blue yearning face of America, rising together, hoping as one. With each day that passes I truly appreciate their confidence in me, as well as their thoughts and comments being sent to me thru email. It is thru your unbendable faith in me that you have created a very fortunate artist. With each precious day that passes by, I am humbled by your devotion and assistance as you help me turn GregoArt into something rare and unique, something that has never been seen before.
As the heavenly angels above me continue to rejoice, I will ride this same train with you, because we know it is bound for Glory, and it will run forever as long as you will continue to follow. Together we will ride these same tracks, thru the silent fields where golden sunlight streams, to the warm spot in your heart, where happiness shines each time you see one of my paintings that you really enjoy.
This new oil painting that you are about to see at the bottom of this short story was actually inspired by a close friend who is also an avid supporter of GregoArt. He has an eccentric and charmingly strange personality like me, which probably explains why we get along so well. I often think he is from another planet, for his drifting mind is often filled with stuff that he would like to eventually accomplish someday. He is extremely clever at rambling on with thought provoking jokes, delivered in an old school vaudeville style, and he is a closet magician who keeps you guessing of what magic trick he is going to perform for you today. Once he took out his wallet out of his back pocket and told me he had a hot tip for me. He said "do you want it"? I replied "of course I do". So he opened up his wallet and a fireball flame came bursting out of his wallet. Then he hysterically laughed and said "Yipes, now that's a hot tip" as he did his little comical vaudeville dance of insanity. He is insanely delirious at times, but I wouldn't trade his friendship for all the tea in China. I believe he can see into the future, or perhaps he already knows that his destiny has already come. He is a confidant and supporter and has followed my career from the original conception of GregoArt in 1996. This new painting that I have completed at GregoArt studios entitled "Star Man" is actually how I see him. He sees the world thru different wonderful eyes of appreciation. Thanks Keith, for all of your friendship, support and comedy that you bring into my life, you crazy S.O.B.
