Once upon a time, a long time ago, in the Fairytale Land of Serendipity, there lived two young mice that were very much full of zippity. They were brown in color, with Emerald green eyes, and had cute little tails that were half their size. They lived in a Birdhouse shaped like an old wooden box that was hidden out behind, a big pile of rocks. This is a short little story that could possibly be true, and if you imagine hard enough, who knows, it might someday happen to you. It seems that the young mice were in search of some cheese, and everywhere that Iris went, the love of her life, Sweet Pea was sure to appease. They always traveled together through streams of Sunlight and Flower fields, and nothing could separate them even if bad weather was revealed. Their adventures would take them thru mighty fields filled with giant Marigolds and bizillions of colored flowers, that led them into an Herb garden, where they whiled away the hours. The Herb garden where they traveled led into a drain gutter that led into a house where they only found butter. "Where is the cheese? Iris asked Sweet Pea, I want to steal a small piece". I don't know he replied, but let's keep looking, and maybe we will be surprised. The house was made up of thicket and branch, and the furniture inside was comfortable at first glance. Iris headed down the hallway, that was narrow and dark, and meanwhile Sweet Pea was in the kitchen in search of cheese as quiet as a Lark.
It was rumored in the village that they were to be married on a sunny summer day, just to the south, down on old Blue Jay way. The wedding had been planned and much attention had been paid all the way down to the tea and crumpets, and would have a thousand green grasshoppers, playing a thousand Golden trumpets. It was a magical world that they lived in back then and it was ruled by a colorful Monarch Butterfly Queen, and her band of Butterfly Men. This was to be their last trip to the old house, before becoming husband and wife, a good life for a mouse. "Bingo" said Sweet Pea as he discovered some Swiss cheese that he knew Iris liked, and surely it would please. With a squeaky little voice Sweet Pea called out Irises name, and after a while of calling she never quite came. His little heart started to beat, really, really fast, for a hungry Siamese Cat had come inside, wearing Pajamas and an old striped Hat. The Hat that he wore was silver and blue, and it had stripes and bright colors, that the Pajamas had too. Sweet Pea ran on his little back legs and behind the cup boards he hid, wondering if Iris had made it out, and hopefully she did. The Siamese Cat had sniffed something in the air, and said "some cheese would be nice, along with a side order of mice, and to that nothing would compare". The kitchen gutter for Sweet Pea was the only way out, but it was still six feet away and his little mind was filled with doubt. The clever Siamese cat; well, he could not see straight, for he suffered from cross-eye which was a terrible fate. Now Sweet Pea had made it back to the gutter, and had cleverly snuck past the cat, with hardly a mutter. It was a lucky day for Sweet Pea, because the cat, with a hat, became full from eating to much cheese, and the thought of another bite, he surely did not need. Sweet Pea had barely made it out thru the gutter to the front of the house, and although he had no cheese, he escaped the cat and was lucky even for a mouse. He looked back and realized that he had made it out by the skin of his chinny chin chin, and then he noticed that the cat in the window whom was sitting in his Pajamas and striped Hat, had a Cheshire cat grin.
By the time that Sweet Pea made it back to the village, the story had spread of the missing mouse Iris who had disappeared in the pillage. From out of the sky flew a mighty Black Crow, who had a reputation in the village of being a no shmo. Pandemonium had broken loose in the village on that summer day, for Iris could not be found and was separated from Sweet Pea, for what seemed like days. The council was summoned and the Monarch butterfly Queen appeared, for a decision had to be made, that everyone feared. They met at the Palace that was made of diamonds, beads and glass, and it sparkled in the sun from its different size and mass. The Monarch queen arrived riding a wise old green Toad, whose name was Reedeep, who spoke with a deep voice as he hopped down the road. The wise old Black Crow, wearing the Queens purple banner, whose given name was Sir Angus over heard Reedeep and Sweet Pea speaking in a very urgent manner. "I am Sir Angus", he said, "protector of the city, and because I can fly high up in the sky I will help you find Iris and resolve this little ditty". Suffering from a broken heart Sweet Pea could not think straight, so he accepted the invitation from Sir Angus the Crow, for he could no longer wait. The creatures of the village gathered around to wish them good luck, for the search may take time and they hoped that Iris was not stuck. Twelve Monarch butterflies directed by the Queen, flew down from the purple Orchid trees to help with the scene. They carefully lifted young Sweet Pea on to the back of the giant Crow, where he sat in a leather saddle designed for the traveler on the go. And although Sweet Pea was weary and a little bit afraid, he knew it was the only way to find Iris, and they must not delay. Now Angus the Crow was a powerful looking bird, who stood 24 inches tall and weighed close to 24 pounds, was rumored the word. Sir Angus was a loyal servant to the Monarch Butterfly Queen, and along with the Monarch Butterflies, they would make a good team. So with the Queens blessing, they flew across big Red River that was on the outskirts of town, right next to the Valley of Quivers. Over the land of Serendipity they flew high and flew fast, for Serendipity was filled with whispering big-blue Trees that spoke of the past. Red River they say is a river that runs, and it is filled with Blue Crabs and singing Fish, that sing just for fun. The mighty Black Crow landed down by Red River, for he hoped that the Fish and Blue Crabs had seen Iris and would be able to deliver. The singing Fish and the Blue Crabs jumped out of the river and started a dance, as the air was filled with silence and a riddled song of romance. The Sky was an unusual color of Pink that day and with nervous shaking knees Sweet Pea held on tight to Angus the Big Black Crow, and listened to what they had to say. The song that they sang went something like this, and they knew they must listen carefully for there was a clue in the song, that surely they could not miss. The song began to be sung by Nine hundred and Ninety nine Blue Crabs and Ninety nine singing fish, who sang in sweet harmony and it sounded like this.
Red river, Red river
is a river that runs.
If you look into the water
you will find your missing one.
Your quest to find Iris
is loyal and true.
So sing and dance along with us
and don't be so blue.
Red river, Red river
your reflection rids the blues.
Find the flower fields of candy
and the rest will come true.
The Monarch Butterflies had finally caught up with the speedy Black Crow and young Sweet Pea too, and they cautiously approached the Red River in hopes that they could find a clue. The Red Water became calm and still as a sheet of glass, and the reflection in the water showed them the way to the pass. There was a vision of Iris sitting in a Candy cane field, filled with Gummy bears and Chocolates, along with Peppermint candy canes that had a never ending yield.
The dancing Blue Crabs and Soprano singing Fish, jumped back in the water for they had answered Sweet Peas wish. The Court Jester appeared who was a miniature Zebra who had Purple spots but no stripes, and answered to the name of Danubo, and he smoked a really Cool Pipe. Now Danubo the Zebra who had spots but no stripes said, "I know where this field of Candy is at, it is beyond the Tea trees in a valley that is flat". So Sweet Pea the Mouse, who sat on Sir Angus the Crow, hopped on Danubo the Zebra, and off they would go. The Monarch Butterfly's took off into the swirling wind, and off they all went, for the their journey was about to begin.
The trail to find Iris led alongside the Red River bank, and then headed north into the Forest where the whispering Blue Trees spoke of the prank. After a while of going north they headed to the west, because the trails of the north were not at their best. "Search, we must search to find young Iris", Sweet Pea said, "we must never give up, and find her instead". Clippity clop went the sounds of Danubo's hoofs that sounded like a dancing Cat on a hot Tin roof. Over cobblestone trails they traveled as slow as old Snails, and each hour that passed filled young Sweet Pea's heart with worrisome tales. The next leg of the journey took them thru the whispering BlueTrees, who whispered, "it's just a bit farther so hurry if you please". The journey was long over hills, valleys and streams, and seemed never ending like a part of a dream. Just as the three were about to give up, in the distance they saw a fork in the road where they saw a little Mouse drinking from a little Golden Wedding cup. And what to their wondering eyes did appear, it was Iris, in Candy land and she was oh so near. Now Danubo the Zebra came to a sudden quick stop, as Sir Angus the Crow took to flight, and Sweet Pea was on top. High, way up high, they flew fast very fast, and they soon landed on a red and white striped field of Candy Cane glass. All of a sudden the whispering Trees started to sing, and a Silver Dove from Heaven flew in with two Golden Wedding rings. In the faint distant background the sounds of trumpets blended in, as a thousand green grasshoppers came marching in. The Pinkish Orange sky was filled with thousands of the Monarch Butterfly team, who flew in like a Tangerine colored cloud, and arrived just before the queen. The Queen of the Monarchs arrived with her trusty friend Toad, who arrived with 79 of his best friends that were also Green Toads. So the story of the missing Iris was set up as a friendly little joke, and everyone involved gave Sweet Pea a practical poke. It seems the whole thing had been set up by the cross eyed Siamese cat who did not want visitors to his house to ever come back. The Siamese cat who liked to play tricks, was friends with Sir Angus the Crow and they had planned this real quick. Sweet Pea jumped off Sir Angus the Crow and gave Iris a kiss, for the joke of her disappearance had taken on many a twist. The creatures of Serendipity all gathered round, to join in the ceremony in which Sweet Pea was dumb found. They walked together on their little back feet as they headed down the Candy Cane aisle, down to where the wedding ceremony had been planned by the cross eyed Siamese Cat for a short while. The thousands of Green Grasshoppers started to play, the Red River song on that glorious summer day. Their Golden trumpets shone in the crystal clear sun, as Sweet Pea slipped the ring onto Irises little finger for he knew she was the one. It was a glorious day in the land of Serendipity, and if you were a mouse it was a day that was filled with Chocolate candy and lots of fun filled yippity. The Wedding ceremony which to Sweet Pea and Iris was a terrific surprise, and had been paid for by the Queen and her old friend Green Toad and was enormous in size.
The creatures from the village along with a zillion brown Ants had brought along a wooden box shaped like a house for Iris and Sweet Pea that surely would entrance. It came with a note written by the cross eyed Siamese Cat, that said "I hope you enjoy this, because it will only make me fat". The box was heavy for it was filled with Swiss cheese, a gift from the Cat with a hat and pajamas that surely would please. The lesson that they learned is that life is lived in the blink of an eye, as the ceremony proceeded and several creatures cried. The dancing Blue Crabs and Soprano singing Fish made once last appearance, for this was Irises wish. They danced and they sang a short Red River melody that was to become their favorite song, for the rest of eternity. It was a very special wedding that was not to be missed, as it started with drama and ended with bliss. As the Sun was going down on this special summer day, Sir Angus the Crow leaned over to Iris and Sweet Pea and this he did say. "I hope your life is filled with happiness and good life, and you know what Sweet Pea, you picked a good wife". "So build your nice house from this box filled with cheese, and if you ever need me, just whisper to the BlueTrees. The trumpets were put away as the Grasshoppers marched down the road, and in the distant field you could see some departing green toads. The Monarch Butterfly's filled the Pinkish Orange sky, as millions of them took to flight and whispered good bye. The Monarch Queen who was full of good advice, said, "come over here Sweet Pea and Iris, and don't you think twice". The Monarch Queen said, "today you learned a lesson from the bottom of your heart, you fought thru the things that had kept you apart". "So don't forget this day for the rest of your lives if you please, and remember that life is too short to be stealing someone else's cheese". Now Sweet Pea and Iris still live down by Red River, in the fairy tale land of Serendipity by the Valley of Quivers. They start out each morning with a breakfast of Candy and Cheese, and they are glad to be living together amongst the whispering Blue-Trees.
